A snapshot of my yesterday

Mondays are home days... although we do go out some "Mummy days" we usually just hang out at home. It's so much less stressful on me and the little Gomers. Now that we're into winter boots, hats, and coats that never really fit into properly tightened seat belts, getting out the door is often more effort than its worth. Besides, we couldn't just have a "jumping show" anywhere!

We made spinach sweet potatoe brownies again...

The spinach taste disappears completely when the brownies are cooled. Jude doesn't mind the slight spinach taste as long as he's got his "cwockwate" (chocolate)

Jude wiping up the milk he spilled on the floor... he'll make his future wife really happy :)
Abby thought she would take it upon herself to wash Jude's face... hey, it was bath night anyway...

I thought it would be a good idea to make our own wrapping paper for Christmas... the 20 minutes in which I undertook this activity with 3 children aged 1- 4 years felt like MUCH longer. Jordan was originally not part of the activity, but decided to crawl under the kitchen table (undetected by Mummy who was otherwise distracted by paint colour requests) and dump out Abby's purple paint pot all over his hands and the floor. The older sister... not impressed. I'm not exactly sure when Jude decided to redecorate that cupboards with some bright blue...
I was an opportunity to teach "cupboard washing" :)Posted by Picasa
I decided that it would likely be best to contain Jordan with his own paint (why not?!) He really enjoyed finger painting...

...then decided to play peek-a-boo with his painting...

Truly, painting was one of the highlights of my day home with the kids :) Making memories...

The Mother Letter Project

Whenever possible, I like to make gifts for others, especially for family. Homemade gifts mean so much more than ones purchased in a store. Even last year, when Jordan was still a newborn, I did my best to prepare small homemade gifts to send back to NB with Mum.

I just came upon this "project" yesterday... this man and his family decided to move beyond the crazy materialism of Christmas and make presents for each other and donate the money they would have spent to a small, poor village on the other side of the world. The Mother Letter Project is this man's incredibly sweet and loving present for his wife (he's anonymous so the project will be a surprise...) This is his description:

"I am creating my wife’s Christmas present-the Mother Letter Project. Simply stated, I am collecting a series of “open letters” from mothers, to mothers. Share your stories—no matter how raw or difficult. Share you concerns—no matter how foolish they may seem. Share your wisdom—no matter how you came by it. Share your mother story. The only request? Start the letter “Dear Mother” and sign it. I will compile all of the letters in a Christmas book for my wife. If you share a letter here or by email (motherletter@gmail.com) before Christmas, you'll get your own copy of the letters."

What a special way for him to show how much he loves and appreciates his wife...

I'm planning to write a letter... are you in too?

Halloween

The kids had fun dressing up and going out for Halloween. We went out early and took Jordan in the stroller. Abby loved her dinosaur costume and Jude was "Tiny", a dog in one of his favourite movies. It was actually just a dog costume that I found at a mother's yard sale, but he was excited nonetheless.
Abby was a pro this year & Jude went to all the houses Abby did. Jon went up with them to the houses that had lots of stairs :) I hung with Jordan.

Jude was really tired by the time we were done (~10 houses), but insisted on "carrying" his own loot.

Jordan's "costume" was his cute little puppy hat. It worked for him and scored him some of his own treats!

He was very excited to show us how they made noise.
He didn't actually eat any of the smarties, but did munch on the box...

Goofy guy

Jude will be 2 1/2 next week. He's speaking in full sentences although there are still a few words that I'll need to ask him to repeat. He's been thrilled by the skid steer & cement mixer landscaping a yard up the hill and points out every digger, police car, boom truck, dump truck, "squishy truck" (roller/compactor), etc. Although he's becoming more strong- willed (I'm not complaining... I think it's great for kids to have a strong will... it's just a little exhausting to teach him appropriate and inappropriate beheaviour), he is always making us smile or laugh with what he says or does. Here are some cute "examples"...
Here Jude is wearing Daddy's hat on his head and a cat dish & one of my shoes on his feet. He really likes wearing my shoes because they make a fun sound when he walks on the wood floors :) Not sure about the cat dish though...

He uses his socks for storing cars (shown here), bread sticks, pieces of cheese... pretty much whatever he'd like to save for later :) Who really needs pockets when you've got socks!!

Listening to the Elephant Song on the computer

Letting Abby paint his face.
Ummm... we're not really sure why he does this or what he's doing...

Wearing Daddy's shirt...

Playing his guitar, Jeff Healey style.

Catching up...random pictures of the little Gomers

We were invited chez Petteplace for Thanksgiving with our Thunder Bay "family". We took the kids' jams so they would be all ready for bed when we got home. They have a large bathroom so Jon and I contained all three kids in the room and did jammies. Jon took Abby & Jude out while I packed up the backpack. Jordan's curiosity led him to the toilet tissue roll... I turned from my packing up to see the tissue unrolled on the floor... I'm glad it was nearly gone :)
We made soft pretzels one afternoon...
Jude is rarely without a car (usually "yellow car" these days).
Abby's kitty pretzel with butter, cinnamon & brown sugar.

"Not Me" Monday

It's that time again...I promise to actually post some pictures of the kids soon, but until then, here's a brief glimpse of my past week courtesy of MckMama.

After discovering a very poopy Jordan, I most certainly did not change said diaper in the front seat of the van, in our driveway, because we were already running late for gymnastics and I didn't want to go back inside.

I do not have a very nasty bruise on my knee from trying to hurdle over a baby gate. I did not miscalculate the height of the gate, trip over it, and land squarely on both knees. I did not lie on my kitchen floor for several seconds trying to decide whether to laugh or cry!

I was not a bit giddy while sorting through heaps of baby clothes and paraphernalia to get rid of at the Mother's Market (flea market for mothers).

I did not polish off a whole bag of highly addictive chips by myself in one evening while watching a movie with Jon.

My clothes and my children's sleeves have not been covered in snot all week... my children always use a tissue and most certainly do not chose to use a sleeve when they see me approaching with a tissue. I did not go out in public tonight with a snot streak along the side of my black pants... that would be disgusting!

I did not try to balance a styrofoam cup of coffee, a glass of water, a cookie on a napkin, and my Bible study notes as I made my way to my small group's meeting room after a helpful suggestion that I "make two trips". I also did not make a comment about being able to juggle lots as a mother of 3 young children. I did not trip on carpet under the table sending my coffee and water all over the books, Bibles, papers, name tags, etc. on the table. I did not burn my arm trying to prevent said spill. AND I most certainly did not hide in the kitchen, totally embarrassed, nursing my burn. That whole incident would just be way to humbling for a very self-sufficent momma.

"Not Me!" Monday

This is my first "Not me!" Monday. I recently came upon MckMama's blog (proud home of Not Me! Monday) through "Bring the Rain" a blog that I've been following for some time now. You should check out MckMama's blog and see the pictures of her MckMiracle and read her amazing story of God's healing power. You should also give "Not me!" Monday a try... it's very therapeutic!!

I did not go outside this morning in my jammies to give Jon some freshly baked chocolate chip muffins only to be greeted by our mail lady. I also did not go outside a few weeks ago in my robe to talk to Jon when the group of runners that use our hill for training stopped to do squats in front of our house. What self-respecting mother would do THAT? Not me!

I did not consider giving my children spinach & sweet-potatoe brownies for supper last night... it's probably more veggies than they would eat at supper anyway... right?!?

I did not wait at least a month before changing the sheets on Abby's top bunk because I didn't want to have to balance precariously on the window ledge. Beds are changed at least once a week at our house.

I did not let my kids go for 5 days without a bath... how much effort does it really take to bath 3 children at their craziest time of the day. Seriously!!

I did not let Jordan play in the catfood... possibly eating a couple pieces... so I could steal a few minutes to myself on the computer. Not me!

I do not throw out the blue plastic glasses that Jon likes for his chocolate milk when he leaves them anywhere other than the kitchen sink... he is not down to only one :) THAT would just be downright mean. I would never do that!

I have not eaten ANY of the kids' Halloween candy. What kind of mother would "trade" the candy that she bought for the trick-or-treaters (the kind she didn't like so she wouldn't eat it all before Halloween) with the yummier candy that her children collected? Definitely NOT me!!

Part of our family...

Lately I've been finding myself torn... although I want to have a place where I can just journal and write about my sweet Josh and Jonah, not doing this on our family blog seems to be too "removed" from our family... God has shaped our family through the births and deaths of our first two sons. We are better parents because we have experienced the devastation of losing not one, but two children. I am a mother of 5.

Although our family cannot physically be together this side of Heaven, I want to "integrate" the two blogs so that we can share about ALL our children in one place. If you've reached our blog looking specifically for posts about Josh & Jonah, I'll tag them to make them easier to locate.

I recently found this song on the blog of the O'Brien family who recently lost their precious Larson. My heart aches for their family and for so many others who have babes in Heaven. Isn't it amazing to know that we'll see, hold and touch them again!!!! Until then, I will continue to praise my God who takes away, but also gives and lavishes us with His AMAZING love. I still believe.
