I remember my mother using the old ringer washer in our kitchen when I was a child (before we invested in the "automatic" washer) and then hanging the clothes out to dry. Today, I'm very thankful for automatic washers and dryers. Although I hang out our laundry when the weather is conducive to drying, I can't imagine using a ringer washer. But, what if I took the time to do my laundry by hand. What if I were forced to have a simpler, slower manner in which to complete my chores. In some ways, I think I would enjoy it.

This is the 7+ loads of laundry remaining on my basement floor after I took 3 loads upstairs to be folded, put one in the dryer and another in the washer (that's 12 loads altogether!) How did I get this far behind in my laundry you may ask...
Well...
-whenever Jordan has a BM, it's up to his shoulder blades...lots of laundry
-Jordan is a wiggly little guy these days so during the BM changes, there may be "transfer" to the clothes of the only parent on hand or to the parent who lost "rock-paper-scissors"
-spit up...lots of adult and baby laundry
-Jordan is really drooly these days (I think he's actually getting his bottom teeth already!)...lots of wet bibs & shirts
-Jude really likes to experience his food...bibs are pretty much useless... lots of laundry
-one of the throw blankets ended up in the cat water
-we just moved Jude out of his toddler bed into a single bed, we moved from a double to a single futon... lots of bedding to wash
-Abby's water spilled all over her bed... might as well just wash it all!
-Jon's been working on dry-wall and planing wood in the addition... lots of dirty, dusty clothes. Although he tends to just wear the same ones over and over until they take on a life of their own, there comes a point when they just REALLY need to be washed.

My "system"
When I have this much laundry to do, I just dump loads on the couch, assign a basket to each family member, and then fold and fold and fold. It makes putting-away much easier :)
