Soaking up the last day of summer vacation

We had a great summer... eventually I'll get around to posting more summer pictures.  It was nice to just live it and to capture the memories with my lens. I love my camera... I love that I can catch those moments that would otherwise fade into the distant recesses of my mind.  I love that pictures will remind me of how the boys loved wearing their cowboy hats this summer...

... and that Abby seemed to be on her hands practicing gymnastics/acro more than she was on her feet. 

It also captures those impish moments where little boys decide to head off to climb up another structure rather than have Mummy take another picture.  Abby waits patiently (before heading off doing another half dozen cartwheels).

 

I miss our lazy yet full summer days when the kids are at school.  It's much quieter and I can get much more accomplished, but I love seeing their smiling faces waiting for the car to stop at "Kiss and Ride" to pick them up after school. 

 

 

 

 

Harvesting

It's cold and rainy here today...dig-out-mittens cold. So I thought I would post a few pictures of warmer days when we harvested some carrots and cucumbers from our garden

 

Being silly with cucumbers... Jude wore his cowboy hat a lot this summer. I'm not sure what the tie from his robe is supposed to be... it doesn't really matter. To him, it complemented his outfit!

Jord had the only tiny-tim tomatoe plant and has cared for it all summer. He's enjoyed eating the tomatoes after all his hard work. Our pumkins didn't grow because they got some type of mold that I didn't catch early enough.

 

We do square-foot gardening where each 1'x1' box is 12" deep, but we didn't have the soil all the way to the top. The carrots grew to the bottom of the boxes so are a little blunted on the ends.

The boys were excited to pull them nonetheless. 

Maybe one of these years we'll have a decent-sized garden.  For now, it's nice to just have a few just-picked-fresh veggies :)
