Celebrating Christmas...

Although we're not Catholic, Abby attends a funded Catholic school. They did write letters to Santa, like most other Kindergarten classes, but the focus of their Christmas celebrations & concerts was always Jesus and the celebration of His birth. I love that. Abby's class took a trip to Gammondale, a local farm, on their last day before the Christmas break. I went along as a helper and was able to take Jude as well. They participated in a live Nativity scene, complete with costumes! They repeated lines to the song, "Take a Walk to Christmas" and each group came into the scene on cue... wisemen, angels, Mary & Joseph, shepherds. The resident donkey & sheep played their parts as well!
Then they took turns enjoying snacks & hot chocolate, doing a craft, visiting the other animals in the barn, and going on a sleigh ride. This was both Abby & Jude's first sleigh ride! It's so difficult to keep the focus in the right place for kids at Christmas... I'm thankful that Abby is getting the same message at home & school. I'm sure there will be issues that come up being a non-Catholic Christian family in a Catholic school, but so far it's been a very positive experience.
